Children and Youth Christian Education
The Round Hill Community Church School (for children five years of age through seventh grade)
is founded on the belief that children are innately and joyfully spiritual. Our Church
School program is designed to nurture spiritual development, familiarity with Bible stories,
and offer the children what they need to continue their growth in faith.
Church School
Topics and lessons are presented using the Workshop Rotation model of church school.
Children are taught the same Bible story or concept for several weeks using different
learning approaches in each workshop. The lessons are therefore reinforced each
week, giving teachers and students opportunities to explore concepts more deeply
and meaningfully. Workshops include art, storytelling, cooking, games, drama or
puppets, science experiments, and movies. They are taught by teams of two to three
adults who converse with the children as they engage in workshop activities. It is like a
"knitting circle" where hands are busy while much conversation and learning are
taking place. Occasional guest speakers and field trips enhance the children's
perspectives on faith and the Bible. Faith is a journey, and all grow in the wonder and
joy of God's abundant love and grace. Children are invited to join their parents in the
Sanctuary for the first part of the service and the Youth Moments. After the
Youth Moments, they are invited to the Church School classrooms. Youth who are
8th grade and older are encouraged to serve as Church School assistants. Please
contact Georgette Huie
if you are interested in helping in any way.
Childcare
Childcare is available for infants and toddlers from 9:45 to 11:15 a.m., every Sunday and until
noon on Forum Sundays. It is also available with a pre-reservation for all special events.
Our childcare providers engage our littlest ones in story, play, and art, as well as providing
loving care. Pagers are available for parents.
Middle School Youth Group
Students who are in sixth, seventh, or eighth grades, or who are age-equivalent,
are invited to join the Middle School Youth Group at RHCC. All faiths are welcome.
We meet twice monthly on Friday evenings, beginning with pizza at 6:30 p.m. and
ending at around 8:00 p.m. See the Church Calendar for details. We are formed on
the basis that it is fun just being together, so whether we are playing games, going on
short trips, engaging in service projects, or eating and learning tegether, we will have
fun. Youth discover that joyful attitudes, mutual respect, and appreciation go a long
way in helping each of us grow as persons of faith. For more information, contact
Georgette Huie.
Confirmation
When students enter eighth grade, they are eligible to take Confirmation class and
become members of RHCC. In these classes, which are held every other year starting
in the fall and going into the spring, class members learn more about the Bible and the
history and traditions of Round Hill Community Church, while exploring their own faith.
The program culminates with the writing and public sharing of each Confirmand's
"Personal Credo." Confirmation classes are led by the Pastor and the Director of Christian Education.
High School Youth Group
In 2012, high school youth (grades 9-12 or age equivalent) are invited to participate in
a summer Mission Trip, tentatively scheduled for mid-August. Stay tuned! If interested,
contact Georgette Huie.
